Great Stories, Great Music

Great stories, great music

Great Stories, Great Music
June 28, 2:30 p.m.

Nothing enhances a good story like music, and when you weave some of the world's greatest stories with the world's greatest music, the result is a tapestry of wonder! Join Music Director Jaap van Zweden in his first appearance in a Dallas Symphony Family Concert as he brings to life stories from both far and near, with the help of some friends from the DSO education department and the Dallas Children's Theater. Excerpts of Mahler's magnificent Fifth Symphony will be used to illustrate the beloved Greek tale of Arion & the Dolphins; Wagenaar's exciting and colorful Cyrano de Bergerac Overture will bring to life that classic swashbuckling tale, and the festive music of Strauss will bring young and old together in an interactive performance of the Radetzky March. The program begins with a rare performance that spotlights the mystical Chinese Erhu as it illustrates a traditional Chinese tale.
