Community Concerts
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is proud to present free community concerts for the Dallas/Fort Worth area. These concerts are hosted both within the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center and at local parks and recreation centers. These concerts have entertained over 70,000 individuals and continue to grow and expand with Dallas. The Symphony is able to perform these concerts because of generous donations from corporate, foundation and individuals donors in Dallas.
In 2006, the Dallas Symphony performed for such events as the Hispanic Festival Concert and the African-American Festival Concert, while performing at such locations as Lee Park, Mountain View College and the Dallas Arboretum.
Memorial Day Concert
Our annual Memorial Day Parks Concert at Flagpole Hill was Monday, May 26. There was fun for all ages with activities and entertainment all evening long. Activities included two Children's Zones full of fun activities for ages 2 and up, an animal petting zoo, the Dallas Fire Department, and stage performances from local artists. All activities began at 4:00 p.m. and continued until 7:00 p.m. when we prepared for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra performance. The evening's concert featured patriotic classics by Sousa, Barber, Bernstein, Smith and Williams. The concert was followed by a fireworks display. This concert was FREE to the public.
Festival Concerts
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is proud to present the Annual African-American and Festival Latino Concerts at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. Created in 1992, these concerts showcase nationally and internationally renowned African-American and Hispanic conductors and the music of legendary and emerging ethnic composers.
Festival concerts benefit local arts organizations. These concerts celebrate the contributions of African-Americans and Latinos to symphonic music. The concerts feature guest conductors, musicians and composers of African and Latin descent.
In addition, the concerts feature lobby entertainment by local musicians and a visual art exhibit by locally and nationally recognized artists. More than 50,000 adults and children have attended the festival concerts since 1993.
2008 Parks Concert Series
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra Community Parks Concert Series is a series of free outdoor performances by the Symphony in Dallas-area parks held throughout the spring. Produced in conjunction with the City of Dallas' Office of Cultural Affairs and Parks and Recreation, these concerts attract more than 35,000 music enthusiasts.
In partnership with the City of Dallas' Park and Recreation Department and Office of Cultural Affairs, the Dallas Symphony has been performing outdoor concerts in Dallas area parks for over 20 years. The six-part concert series continues to serve large cross-segments of our community. The series includes two annual events which have become traditions in Dallas, the Easter Concert at Lee Park and the Memorial Day Concert at Flagpole Hill. The audience for these concerts reflects the growing diversity of Dallas.
The Community Parks Concerts Series is an integral part of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's increasing community outreach efforts. These concerts provide the organization an opportunity to reach potential new audiences and exhibit its commitment to the enrichment of our city. These free concerts are to be performed at six various sites throughout the City of Dallas.
